Dry workshop: This workshop may not require PPE

Airway compromise remains one of the most challenging and life-threatening emergencies in trauma. This practical workshop explores key airway guidelines, decision-making under pressure, and hands-on practice of critical interventions. Delegates will leave with enhanced understanding and confidence in managing complex airway situations in trauma care.

  • During this workshop, you will explore how an airway can be compromised in the context of trauma, with reference to difficult airway society guidelines.

  • You will have the opportunity to perform simulated endotracheal intubation using direct laryngoscopy.

  • You will practise simulated emergency needle cricothyroidotomy and oxygen insufflation.

  • You will learn to perform an emergency surgical cricothyroidotomy using the “scalpel, bougie, tube” technique.

  • You will understand the difference between surgical cricothyroidotomy and tracheotomy, and their indications.
