Airway compromise remains one of the most challenging and life-threatening emergencies in trauma. This practical workshop explores key airway guidelines, decision-making under pressure, and hands-on practice of critical interventions. Delegates will leave with enhanced understanding and confidence in managing complex airway situations in trauma care.

During this workshop, you will explore how an airway can be compromised in the context of trauma, with reference to difficult airway society guidelines.

You will have the opportunity to perform simulated endotracheal intubation using direct laryngoscopy.

You will practise simulated emergency needle cricothyroidotomy and oxygen insufflation.

You will learn to perform an emergency surgical cricothyroidotomy using the “scalpel, bougie, tube” technique.

You will understand the difference between surgical cricothyroidotomy and tracheotomy, and their indications.
