Chest trauma is one of the leading causes of preventable death in trauma patients. This workshop provides an in-depth look at the assessment and management of thoracic injuries, supported by practical training in life-saving procedures. Delegates will gain both knowledge and technical skill in managing some of the most critical emergencies in trauma care.

Learn the indications for needle thoracocentesis, chest tube insertion, and pericardiocentesis.

Be able to describe the clinical features distinguishing pneumothorax, tension pneumothorax, cardiac tamponade, massive haemothorax, open pneumothorax, and flail chest.

Understand the underlying pathology of tension pneumothorax and cardiac tamponade.

Recognise the importance of good venous access before attempting procedures.

Practise performing needle thoracocentesis and chest drain insertion, including identifying possible complications.
