Learn the indications for needle thoracocentesis, chest tube insertion and pericardiocentesis.
Be able to describe the clinical features distinguishing the following conditions: pneumothorax, tension pneumothorax, cardiac tamponade, massive haemothorax, open pneumothorax, flail chest.
Describe the underlying pathology of tension pneumothorax and cardiac tamponade as a result of trauma.
Understand the importance of good venous access before attempting procedures.
Learn to perform and identify the complications of needle thoracocentesis and chest drain insertion.
